If Ocean Critters Freak You Out, Then You Should Probably Avoid This Video
If you’re like me and you panic every time something grazes your foot in the ocean, then you’re not going to like this.
A huge swarm of small crabs was spotted by researchers more than 1,000 feet below the surface off the coast of Panama, stampeding like wildebeests across the ocean floor. At first, the team thought it was some sort of underwater cloud. They quickly figured out, however, that the mass was very much alive.
The crabs have been identified as Pleuroncodes planipes, which are more commonly known as red crabs. Scientists aren’t quite sure why such a crazy amount of these critters clustered together, but they think it might’ve had something to do with the nearby Hannibal Bank Seamount, which, for whatever reason, attracts a wide array of sea life.
