Try To Listen To This Guy’s Bizarre Music Without Feeling Anxious…I Dare You
When someone tells you they are going to play the piano, you expect them to sit on the bench and play the keys.
Not Victor Trescoli. The musician is known for making music in unusual ways, and in the following video he demonstrates a technique that was first developed in the 1920s by American composer Henry Cowell. Instead of tickling the ivories, Cowell opens the top of the piano to pluck, scrape, and sweep the strings. The resulting music is dramatic, full of tension, and more than a little anxiety inducing.
Listen as Trescoli plays one of Cowell’s most memorable compositions, “The Banshee.”
What did you think? Do you find the haunting melody soothing, or does it make you feel like you’re on the verge of a panic attack? Personally, I’ll stick to playing my piano the usual way, thank you very much.
